Church Hall Makeover for former Pit Village

Residents of Beighton are set to benefit from an exciting new development that is happening on their doorstep.  The Church hall of St.Mary's in Beighton is about to be transformed into a unique Community building that will bring positive impacts to their lives through the provision of a range of services that will be made available.

The development is a partnership between Beighton Villages Development Trust and the Parocial Church Council of St.Mary's Church and is known as the Lifestyle Centre.  Opening in December 2007 the centre will provide a number of community based activities with a primary focus on health, along with a full range of complementary therapies that visitors to the centre will be able to access.  The development is financially supported through Yorkshire Forward Single Pot funding and European Regional Development Funding through the South Yorkshire Objective 1 programme.

Mark Storey, Project Development Officer for the Beighton Village Development Trust says: "This is an important devlopment for the villages of Beighton and Sothall as it is seen as an exemplar project and something that could well become the hub for complimentary therapy provision within the Yorkshire area.  The sensitive restoration of the church hall will provide an essential makeover for a community building that will continue to be owned by the community"

The redevelopment has already begun with Sheffield based Goldwing Developments currently undertaking inspection works on the site.

Ryley Wing of Goldwing Developments comments:"Goldwing Developments are excited to be involved in transforming an existing building into a unique community facility for Beighton and Sothall, and in BVDT we have a partner who like ourselves deliver extremely successful projects within the community".

The familiar sight of the St.Mary's Church Hall

The Church hall has, for many years provided a facility for local groups to meet and carry on their interests.  Play groups, weight loss classes, keep fit and karate groups have all made use of the hall on a regular basis for many years, with sequence dancing having been a feature for over twenty five years. As the end of one era closes with another opening the Church wishes to thank all former users for their loyalty.

Chairman of the Perocial Church Council, Frank Hancock says:" St.Mary's Church are pleased that the Lifestyle Centre is finally to become reality.  Builders are now engaged in transforming the Church hall that everyone in the area has known for so many years into a modern building containing up to date facilities that a community building should enjoy.  When completed the newly refurbished hall will still be available for hire but the addition of the Lifestyle project will bring a much needed facility for local people. St.Mary's Church supports this exciting initiative and looks forward to a very successful future for this grand building".
