Curriculum
The staff at Reignhead work together to provide a thoughtfully planned and carefully considered curriculum which is broad, balanced and meaningful. We plan children''s work jointly in year group
teams and as a whole staff so that the whole curriculum is being constantly reviewed to benefit all our children. The continuity and progression of your child''s education from 3+ to 11 + is of vital importance to us and emphasis on recording achievements and experiences allows us to continue this commitment to your child''s learning even when they go on to secondary school.
Full and complete attention is paid to the study of the core and foundation subjects as stated in the National Curriculum, whilst taking into consideration the social and personal development of every child in order that they can fulfil their role in the multi-ethnic society in which we live. The principles of our Local Education Authority are embedded within our curriculum, namely equality of opportunity and provision for children with special needs.
Curriculum Statement
The staff and Governors at Reignhead aim to provide the children with the best possible education,
delivering a curriculum that is broad and balanced, capturing the interests and enthusiasm of its young learners. We support the educational values and principles which Sheffield LEA is striving to realise within its community.
Our school curriculum involves far more that the 10 subjects of the "National Curriculum", in fact it is comprised of all the experiences to which a child is exposed to throughout their time at school - not just the academic. We are therefore considering a lengthy process, one, which can only be fairly evaluated when the children leave to go on to secondary school.
We believe that the organisation and delivery of our curriculum enables all children, regardless of age, sex, ability and background, to progress year by year maximising their potential in all curriculum areas. We are very proud of our children''s achievements when they leave us to move on to secondary education.
How our curriculum is organised
All our children from Nursery to Y6 have equal access to an appropriate and balanced curriculum, which meets statutory requirements.
The Curriculum for the Under Fives is based on Early Learning Goals:
The Curriculum for 5-11 year olds includes the following national Curriculum Subjects:
Detailed Information on the allocation of teaching time, and how each of these areas is taught is available in school
How the Curriculum Is Taught
Through all the above we want all our children to experience a sense of personal achievement, to feel pride in their efforts and to learn with confidence in their growing abilities. In order to achieve this our staff use a whole range of teaching strategies. These include the following:
-
Children being taught in mixed-ability class groups
-
Children taught alongside children of similar ability in smaller groups
-
One-to-one teaching
-
Children learning from each other
